The seven provinces on alert status comprise Indonesia's capital city Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, West Java, Banten, South Sumatra, and Bengkulu
"We call on the people to remain vigilant while conducting activities outside from evening to midnight, as heavy rainfall along with strong winds and lightning may occur. In Jakarta, bad weather may continue in the morning," BMKG's weather forecaster, Ida Pramuwardani, stated in Jakarta.
Following the forecast, heavy rainfall in the capital city could lead to flooding in several sub-districts in the country's capital city. In West Jakarta, the flood-prone areas include Kebon Jeruk, Kembangan, Palmerah, and Tamansari, while in Central Jakarta, heavy rains could lash Cempaka Putih, Gambir, Johar Baru, Kemayoran, Menteng, Sawah Besar, Senen, and Tanah Abang, Pramuwardani predicted.
Meanwhile, in South Jakarta, Pramuwardani has urged people living and working in Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Lama, Kebayoran Baru, Mampang Prapatan, Pancoran, Pasar Minggu, Pesanggrahan, Setia Budi, and Tebet to remain vigilant to flooding and other incidents that may occur owing to heavy rainfall.
In East Jakarta, areas included on the list comprise Cakung, Cipayung, Ciracas, Duren Sawit, Jatinegara, Kramat Jati, Makasar, Matraman, Pasar Rebo, and Pulogadung, while in North Jakarta, the flood-prone areas cover Cilincing, Danau Sunter, Kelapa Gading, Koja, Pademangan, and Tanjung Priok.
On Monday morning, the city-owned bus network Transjakarta announced that floodwaters, inundating streets across the capital city, had disrupted travel schedules on the Pulogadung-Harmoni and Tanjung Priok-PGC2 routes.
The bus operator continues to operate the two routes, although the drivers will avoid any stops still affected by the flooding, Transjakarta's spokesperson, Nadia Disponsanjoyo, noted in a statement.
