We condemn this act of violence and inhumanity in the name of religion that happened in India. We demand the government and authorities of India to take an immediate measure in order to curb the violence,Jakarta (ANTARA) - GP Ansor, the Nahdlatul Ulama-affiliated Islamic youth organization, denounced the violent acts against Muslims in India following riots in the capital between Hindus and minority Muslims over a contentious citizenship law resulting in numerous deaths.
Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, the GP Ansor chief, stated on Thursday that the clashes has snowballed into interfaith violence.
"We condemn this act of violence and inhumanity in the name of religion that took place in India. We demand the government and authorities of India to take an immediate measure in order to curb the violence," Qoumas noted in a statement.
Furthermore, GP Ansor has urged the Indonesian government to lodge a protest with New Delhi as India is viewed as having failed to protect Muslim citizens. This is since the use of violence to manage problems cannot be justified, Qoumas stated.
"I appeal to all Muslims in Indonesia to stay calm and always maintain a conducive situation of interfaith harmony that has been run in a good way," he pointed out.
The recent acts of violence committed on the pretext of religion should be a matter of concern of every single party. Qoumas stated that Islam never advocates violent extremism, especially if it used to obtrude in a person’s faith to others.
"It needs to be emphasized that any forms of violence used for managing problems will always only lead to other problems. Dialogue is the best way to solve it," Qoumas added. Related news: NU Islamic organization urges halt of violence on religious figures
