Sampit, Central Kalimantan (ANTARA) -

A crocodile recently entered a residential area and preyed on livestock in Palangan village in Kota Besi sub-district, East Kotawaringin district, Central Kalimantan.

"The crocodile could eat a pig weighing 35 kilograms. Residents could only hear the sound of the pig being attacked by the crocodile," Delik, Head of Palangan village, said here on Wednesday.

On Saturday (March 8), a crocodile climbed onto the dock. Residents whose homes are close to the pier claimed to have seen the crocodile, which then went back into the river, according to Delik.

"Now people have become more cautious when they are around the river. They are scared to take a bath at the river at dawn and night, because they are afraid of the crocodile," he added.

Delik has reported the incident about the crocodile to Muriansyah, who is the Head of Central Kalimantan Conservation Center for Natural Resources in Sampit.

"We plan to go to the location (where the crocodile is lodged) on Saturday to observe the condition, and then we will bring tools to catch the crocodile. I urge the public to be more vigilant. Do not put any cattle near the river bank, because it can lure crocodiles to come," Muriansyah said.

Muriansyah also advised residents not to come near the river after dark.
