Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has postponed all work visits to other cities and nations for at least the subsequent two weeks until March 30 in a bid to minimize the risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

"The vice president's meetings entail the involvement of several people but are not urgent in nature, including work visits to other areas in the country, are being temporarily postponed," Assistant Deputy for Communication and Public Information of the Vice Presidential Secretariat, Rusmin Nuryadin, noted in a statement received here, Monday.

The protocol is effective from Monday, for the next two weeks, and will be evaluated by taking into account developments pertaining to the spread of COVID-19.

For the subsequent two weeks, Amin will be flexible in conducting his duties as a vice president, both at the VP offices and his official residence.

In a bid to maintain social distancing, the vice president is restoring to teleconferencing for work, including for meetings with President Joko Widodo and the ranks of ministers, holding meetings, and media interviews.

"As directed by the president, the vice president will continue to work both in the office or official residence as needed. The vice president is also applying social distancing, through measures including videoconferencing facilities while holding certain meetings," the statement noted.

Vice President Amin was at the Jakarta Vice President's Office on Monday morning to attend a teleconferencing meeting with President Widodo, minister of state-owned enterprises (BUMN), cabinet secretariat, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
