Since the notice was issued on March 19, 2020, as many as 7,031 mass gatherings across the county were, so far, dissolved.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The police has dissolved 7,031 mass gatherings across the country following the issuance of the Police Chief's notice to adhere to the government’s policy on handling COVID-19 transmission, Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis stated.

"Since the notice was issued on March 19, 2020, as many as 7,031 mass gatherings across the county were dissolved until now," Azis stated here on Friday.

Among the gatherings are wedding parties and crowds at some cafes and other public places.

"Among the gatherings we have dissolved are wedding parties in some regions, crowds in cafes, and all types of (mass gatherings) stipulated in the notice," he revealed.

Azis noted that the police will step up patrolling across all regions in a bid to maintain the public compliance to the government's policy on physical distancing to cutting the chain of coronavirus transmission.

"We will continue to conduct joint patrolling with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and all stakeholders. Hence, the public could understand that all such efforts are aimed at preventing the public from contracting the coronavirus infection," he noted.

He also called on his personnel to tirelessly remind the public of the government's call to practice physical distancing to avoid COVID-19 transmission.

Based on the police chief' notice, mass gatherings that will be cancelled by the police in a persuasive manner are social, cultural, religious, and faith gatherings in the form of seminar, workshop, and other type of events that may create crowds.

Other gatherings are musical concert, exhibition, festival, bazar, funfair, and family reception. It also includes sports events, art and entertainment events, demonstrations, carnivals, and other events where there can be a congregation of people.
