Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has distributed 349,000 pieces of protective equipment (APD) to health workers dealing with COVID-19 cases in hospitals, said government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Achmad Yurianto.

He made the remarks at a press conference on Wednesday in Jakarta.

"As many as 349,000 protective equipment have been distributed to meet the needs of health workers who are at the forefront of handling COVID-19," he said.

According to Yurianto, 360 referral hospitals have been prepared by the government for handling patients under close monitoring (PDP), or COVID-19 positive patients.

The hospitals belong to the military, the national police, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), or are privately owned.

"This is our joint commitment. This is a serious problem that must be addressed in an integrated way by all parties," he said.

Currently, no less than 5,000 health workers have been deployed to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, Yurianto said.

They are studying health and disease patterns and factors related to the population level responsible for COVID-19, he added.

Yurianto said the officers have also been equipped with 4,727 rapid test kits to conduct initial screening for COVID-19 infections and detecting new cases, in order to prevent transmission of the virus. (INE)
