As many as 255 of the 521 swab samples have been examined. The results showed that 11 of them were confirmed positive cases, Riau Provincial Government's COVID-19 spokesman, Indra Yovi, noted in a press statement that ANTARA received here, Monday.
As of Monday morning (April 27), Riau Province had 39 confirmed cases, of which 22 are yet hospitalized while 13 others were discharged from the hospital after fully recovering from this deadly virus, whereas the death toll had reached four.
On Sunday, a resident of Dumai City was diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently undergoing treatment at the Dumai city public hospital's isolation ward, Yovi revealed, adding that this 28-year-old patient, identified as T, had come in close contact with another COVID-19 patient.
"T was detected through a tracing effort. He had come in close contact with a COVID-19 patient, identified as S, in Dumai," he remarked.
Since the Indonesian government’s official announcement of two confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country on March 2, the number of people under surveillance (ODP) has reached 14,643, while the number of patients under monitoring status (PDP) has totaled 244 in Riau Province.
Some 64 of the 244 patients under surveillance had died, he noted.
The Indonesian Health Ministry has declared the cities of Pekanbaru and Dumai as well as the districts of Kampar and Pelalawan as "COVID-19 red zones".
The coronavirus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan by the end of 2019, has spread to various countries worldwide, including Indonesia.
According to media reports, as of April 27, at least 2.99 million people had contracted the COVID-19 infection, while 206,992 died of the virus, and 878,820 others had fully recovered from the disease.
Indonesia recorded at least 8,882 confirmed cases, while the death toll touched 743, and 1,107 patients were discharged from hospitals after fully recovering from the coronavirus that has majorly impacted the economies of so many nations.
