We want to look after on how Central Java handles this COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, we are willing to invest here, particularly in pharmacies.
Semarang (ANTARA) - Several pharmacy companies from India have expressed their eagerness to invest in industrial sites in Central Java province, senior officials said on Tuesday.

"We want to look after on how Central Java handles this COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, we are willing to invest here, particularly in pharmacies," Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, noted during a meeting with Governor Ganjar Pranowo in Semarang.

The ambassador reiterated some similarities between India and Indonesia, Central Java for instance, including in the manufacture of medicinal-herbal products, such as ginger, turmeric, and curcuma.

"We are eager to explore more about this, and hoping for such cooperation to be soon implemented. For now, there is one company that has already settled in Semarang, Central Java," he added.

Pranowo confirmed their meeting explored potential investment from Indian pharmacy firms.

"India is interested to do the investment here ... while now India has tried cooperation with Biofarma (Indonesia's SOE for vaccine production), thus, if it comes to further development and factory establishment in Central Java, it will be much great," he elaborated.

Pranowo said the ambassador is aware of industrial sites located in the region, such as Brebes, Kendal, and Batang industrial areas.

"I hope the projects will take place in Kendal or Batang in the near future, since these two have already been prepared for (such projects). Though it (investment by pharmacy companies) is still an offer (at present), I have already asked the authorities to take follow-up measures," Pranowo noted.

Besides discussing the potential investment by Indian pharmacy companies, Rawat and Pranowo also discussed cooperation in other areas, including information technology, health services, education, as well as agriculture. (INE)
