Jakarta (ANTARA) - Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, strict health protocols are applied during the 2020 Annual Session attended by high-ranking officials of the government, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representatives (DPR), and Regional House of Representatives (DPD).

All attendees wore masks and maintained a safe distance at the Parliamentary Complex of Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, with a cap on the number of people allowed to enter the building.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), scheduled to deliver his annual nation speeches, chose to wear a Sabu traditional costume from East Nusa Tenggara Province and a black mask, whereas Vice President Ma'ruf Amin wore a suit and black mask.

MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, and DPD Speaker La Nyalla Mattalitti also wore masks and welcomed the president, albeit without any handshaking, in keeping with the practice to avoid close contact to prevent any virus transmissions.

"All these chairs in this assembly room should have been fully occupied, with no chair left unused. Nonetheless, every single aspect we have planned must be completely changed," President Jokowi stated during his opening remarks while referring to the limited number of attendees owing to the application of COVID-19 protocols.
