Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo outlined the government's plan for educational reforms on Friday while presenting the draft state budget in the Parliament.


“The government will carry out educational reforms through transformation of school principal leadership, transformation of education and teacher training, teaching according to student ability levels, and global assessment standards, as well as regional partnerships and civil society,” the President said in Jakarta on Friday.


In addition, the President said, other policies in the field of education would be carried out, through strengthening vocational programs and pre-employment cards, strengthening the implementation of early childhood education, increasing the effectiveness of the distribution of educational assistance, accelerating improvement, quality of educational infrastructure, especially for 3T (Disadvantaged, Frontier, and Outermost) areas, as well as Indonesia Smart Card-College (KIP Kuliah).


The President said the 2021 education budget of Rp549.5 trillion, or 20 percent of the state budget, will be focused on improving the quality of human resources, technological adaptability, and increasing productivity through economic knowledge in the industrial era 4.0.


In general, the President said, the implementation of fundamental reforms must be carried out, namely in the areas of education, health, social protection, and budgeting and taxation.


Therefore, the government has made the fiscal policy theme for 2021 as 'Acceleration Economic Recovery and Strengthening Reforms'. (INE)
