Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta composite share price index (IHSG) opened higher, Tuesday morning, before the Central Statistics Agency's (BPS') announcement on the country's balance of trade in July 2020 in the afternoon.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) increased 17.67 points, or 0.34 percent, to reach 5,265.36, while the index of the 45 most liquid stocks rose 4.08 points, or 0.49 percent, to 831.3.

"We project that the IHSG will remain flat and tend to strengthen during today's trading," the Samuel Sekuritas research team noted in a report released on Tuesday.

The US stock exchange closed variative overnight, with investors continuing to monitor the development of the US stimulus. However, the Nasdaq index again hit a record high, closing at 11,129.73.

On Monday, trading at several major Asian stock exchanges closed variative. The Indonesia Stock Exchange was closed on Monday, as the nation marked the 75th anniversary of its independence.

The BPS is set to make an announcement in July 2020 on Tuesday afternoon regarding the country's exports, imports, and balance of trade. The country will record another trade surplus of US$0.68 billion in July 2020.

In addition, investors are keeping abreast of a meeting of Bank Indonesia's Board of Governors held on Tuesday and Wednesday to set the BI 7-Day Repo Rate.

Regional markets recorded an increase in index on Tuesday morning, with the Hang Seng Index rising 49.16 points, or 0.19 percent, to 25,396.5; and the Straits Times Index strengthening 1.75 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,573.3. However, Nikkei plunged 99.78 points, or 0.43 percent, to 22,996.97.
