"The marine rural tourism development program is the KKP's policy in developing marine tourism based on the sustainability of ecosystems and local communities by providing opportunities for villages to develop their tourism potential," KKP's Marine Spatial Management Director General, Aryo Hanggono, noted in a press statement here on Friday.
Some 35 villagers from Lombok, Bima, and Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) underwent training to hone their skills to serve as competent marine tourism managers during the training program held on Aug 24, 2020.
Good marine tourism management can provide added economic value and boost the welfare of coastal communities, he stated.
Meanwhile, Director of Marine Services, Mitahul Huda, remarked that the ministry’s technical guidance activities laid greater emphasis on managing tourist areas, institutional strengthening, and digital promotion for marine ecotourism.
Marine tourism not only aims to boost the economy but also encompasses nature conservation in order to maintain sustainability of the ecosystem, Huda stated.
Huda suggested the training's participants to constantly monitor the condition of the marine ecosystem and promote marine environmental preservation among members of the public.
