The government will continue to encourage the equitable distribution of people's access to basic needs.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has assured that the government's fiscal policy for 2021 will be directed towards improving various indicators of public welfare.

"The government will continue to encourage the equitable distribution of people's access to basic needs," she said during a plenary meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.

The equitable distribution of the people's access to basic needs, such as the availability of food and housing, health, and educational facilities, will be high on the list of the government's fiscal policy priorities in 2021, she remarked.

Robust economic growth coupled with stable economic conditions will offer a positive momentum to the government to reduce the indicators of poverty and disparity, she predicted.

The indicators of poverty and disparity increased in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the government is committed to issuing policies in favor of the public, she explained.

She said various government programs, particularly social protection and provision of incentives to businesses, will hopefully help reduce poverty and open unemployment rates.

The poverty and open unemployment rates are projected to reach 9.2-9.7 percent and 7.7-9.1 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the Gini ratio, which reflects inequality, is expected to fall to 0.377-0.379 next year, the minister said.

The human development index score is expected to rise to 72.78-72.95, which indicates improvement in public welfare. (INE)
