Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 11 witnesses were subject to police interrogation in connection with the production of ecstasy pills in the VVIP room of a private hospital in Central Jakarta.

"This week, we have conducted a preliminary hearing, and there are no additional witnesses for questioning. We have questioned 11 witnesses until now," Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sawah Besar Police, Central Jakarta, First Police Inspector Wildan stated here on Wednesday.

The police had yet to name new suspects in the case.

On August 20, the police had placed a drug convict, identified by his initials as AU, 42, and a drug courier MW, 36, in detention for producing ecstasy pills in the VVIP room of a private hospital in Central Jakarta.

MW served as a courier for the suspect AU, an inmate at the Salemba detention center.

"He (AU) is detained for a 15-year sentence over possession of 15,000 ecstasy pills. He had only served two years," Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Heru Novianto stated.

AU had been receiving medical treatment for two months at the hospital based on a referral from the detention center after regularly complaining of stomach pain.

"The suspect asserted that he was sick, but apparently, he had turned (the hospital room) into a factory. We conducted an investigation and raided his VVIP room after receiving information from the public," Novianto remarked.

In the VVIP room, the police retrieved evidence of ecstasy pills, dyes, a cell phone, and ecstasy printing kits to turn powder into granules.
