Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Indonesian vice foreign minister, Dino Patti Djalal, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and is now undergoing intensive treatment at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta.



Executive secretary of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), Mohamad Irfan, confirmed the news in a written statement released on Wednesday.



"We, the extended family of FPCI, inform that our chairman, Dino Patti Djalal, has tested positive for COVID-19 after suffering respiratory system disorder over the past six days," he said.



Dino was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after his health deteriorated.



He was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Wednesday, Irfan informed.



“Dr. Dino hopes all his friends pray that the ordeal will soon pass. Dr. Dino has also sent his regards and all his love to all his friends," Irfan said.



The number of new COVID-19 cases has continued to increase in Jakarta in the past few weeks, prompting local authorities to re-impose large-scale social restrictions completely, starting Monday (September 14, 2020). (INE)
