Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas condemned the vandalism committed at the Darussalam Mushola, Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, Banten Province, on Tuesday (Sept 30), terming it an uncivilized act.

"The MUI deeply regrets this uncivilized and irresponsible act," Abbas stated on Wednesday.

Abbas urged law enforcement officials to immediately process the case and take action against the perpetrators in accordance with the existing laws and regulations.

The MUI secretary general emphasized that the incident of vandalism at Darussalam Mushola should not be ignored since it could potentially trigger unrest and commotion. Hence, law enforcement officials should be firm in processing the case, he noted.

If fair and firm investigation is not conducted into the case, it can, in fact, trigger a sense of ire among the people and sections of society. Of course, this should not occur, he affirmed.

The Darussalam Mushola, located at the Villa Tangerang Elok housing complex, was reportedly vandalized.

The perpetrators painted graffiti on the walls that read "Anti-Islam", "Saya Kafir" (I am infidel), and "Anti-Khilafah", among others, and also cut out prayer mats and scribbled on the Holy Book Quran.

On the night of the same day, the perpetrators were arrested by the police.
