The defendant was lawfully and convincingly proven guilty of committing the offence of collective corruption, Susanti Arwi Wibawani, who presided over the judiciary panel, stated at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday.
Public prosecutors of the Attorney General's Office demanded that life imprisonment be handed down to the defendant and a fine of Rp1 billion be slapped or an additional six months in jail.
In its verdict, the panel of judges asserted that the defendant's misdeeds, inflicting Rp16.807 trillion in state losses, did not support the government's program to create a corruption-, collusion-, and nepotism-free government.
The misdeeds were structured, systematic, and massive and dampened the public's confidence in the insurance business and capital market. The defendant felt no sense of guilt or remorse for his misdeeds, he pointed out.
"The defendant is neither an ordinary person to make decisions nor is he a newcomer in the insurance industry and capital market. In fact, he had an amazing track record. Hence, he must be an excellent human resource that is worthy of praise to rescue Jiwasraya. However, the defendant got trapped in personal interests that are not justified for whatsoever reasons. Hence, it is fair to mete out the same sentence to three of them," she stated.
The judge stated that Prasetyo, along with PT Asuransi Jiwasraya's former president director Hendrisman Rahim, PT Asuransi Jiwasraya's former chief of investment and finance division Syahmirwan, PT Hanson International Tbk president director Benny Tjokrosaputro, PT Trada Alam Minera Tbk chief commissionmer Heru Hidayat, and PT Maxima Integra director Joko Hartomo Tirto had committed misdeeds inflicting Rp16.807 trillion in state losses in the management of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya's funds.
