Jakarta (ANTARA) - Southeast Asia's multi-service tech giant, Gojek, introduces its latest innovation -- GoTransit --to increase the safety and efficiency of travel for public transport users amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The feature is designed to minimize users' physical contact while traveling, as it provides updated information on the schedules of public transportation and offers recommendations on the shortest route to the final destination.

Raditya Wibowo, Gojek senior vice president of transport, stated during a virtual panel discussion, last week that Gojek has connected GoTransit to the routes and schedules provided both by modern and conventional modes of transportation available within the Greater Jakarta area, including the ride-hailing services, public minivan (popular as angkot), commuter rail system (KRL Commuter Line), capital city's mass rapid transit (MRT), and Transjakarta bus network.

The new feature will offer recommended shortest routes and efficient modes of transportation that users should take for their trips.

It also furnishes information on the duration and cost estimation.

Before the new feature was available, users were required to open multiple applications to access information on the route, check the traffic as well as schedules of train and bus, and then have to open another app to order the ride-hailing services.

To address such inefficiency, GoTransit has put together all the different applications while connecting the city's public transportation systems into a single feature that has been operational in the Gojek app ecosystem.

"The key is collaboration, as a transportation operator we couldn't stand on our own as people have different needs and issues. Therefore, Gojek has actively participated in this collaboration that leads us to GoTransit, as our latest innovation," Raditya reiterated.

On a similar occasion, President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William Sabandar applauded Gojek's efforts to increase connectivity in the city's mode of transportation as he stated that integration is key to people's problems.

"This integration effort covers both services and ticketing processes. I think it's (GoTransit) an excellent innovation. Our community can enjoy the benefits of taking multiple trips outside their home by using only a single application," he added.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of The United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC), Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, at the discussion, said Gojek's latest innovation has become a future reference for other ride-hailing service providers.

"Gojek is now a decacorn, so it has been a model for other service providers worldwide," Bernadia stated at the panel discussion.

Apart from introducing GoTransit, Gojek also reiterated its commitments to complying with stringent health protocols, such as creating safe zones in some strategic spots for both Gojek drivers and customers.

The company has also introduced its own safety measure, known as J3K.

"In our safe zone (Zona Nyaman J3K), we check the customers' body temperatures while applying strict physical distancing. We also provide a free disinfectant for the helmets carried by our app users," Raditya added.

More than 90 percent of ride-hailing service users found Gojek has better safety and health protocols than other providers, said a latest research conducted by Demography Research Center of Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia.

A similar finding also found by Singapore-based pollster Blackbox and Paris-based pollster Toluna, which in their reports noted Gojek has offered more practical and positive services amid the pandemic.

Thus far, Gojek has distributed over 36,000 additional protective partitions to its GoRide drivers and installed over 40,000 partitions for its GoCar drivers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
