We are proud to continue to support and protect our partners through Gojek SHIELD technology, whose capabilities and features are constantly being improved to answer the needs of our partners in the field
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Southeast Asia’s largest super app, Gojek, has recently rolled out its newest SHIELD technology in order to increase the safety and comfort of its driver partners while working, as well as users in general when accessing services. The new innovation, which includes fake order reports and illegal gadget detection, will ensure its drivers are protected from security threats and fraud.

“We are proud to continue to support and protect our partners through Gojek SHIELD technology, whose capabilities and features are constantly being improved to answer the needs of our partners in the field," said Head of Driver Operations at Gojek, Kelvin Timotius, here.

The super app’s world-class Information Security team utilized machine learning and artificial intelligence technology to detect and act on any fraudulent activities.

Through the ‘Lapor Order Fiktif Gak Pake Lama’ (fake order instant reporting) feature, drivers can file a fake order report directly from their mobile application, allowing the system to cancel the indicated fraud automatically -- a process that takes less than two minutes to complete.

The Gojek SHIELD security technology is also able to automatically detect and act on the use of illegal devices. If the system detects them, illegal device users will receive a gradual sanction, starting from temporary account deactivation to partnership termination.

Under its #AmanBersamaGojek (Safe With Gojek) initiative, Gojek has previously used technologies with face verification and phone number masking features.

“Besides managing Gojek SHIELD technology to protect our counterparts, the Gojek team is also being proactive [...] to help the legal authority to discover criminal syndicates using illegal applications,” Timotius added.

Dhany Aryanda, Head of Sub Directorate of Cyber Crime - Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) noted, "Currently, Cyber Crime unit in Jakarta Metropolitan Police is powered with an advanced digital forensic laboratory and team members with reliable IT skills. The collaboration with Gojek SHIELD technology which is able to detect the use of banned applications, which is then reported to us, is a good support so we immediately followed up and succeeded in arresting a criminal syndicate that makes illegal applications operating in the Greater Jakarta Area. The investigative process of this case has been completed and the suspects are currently undergoing court proceedings at the South Jakarta District Court."

“We appreciate Gojek's quick steps in reporting this case so that it can minimize the impact of losses to the community and the online transportation industry in general." Dhany added.

An internal survey involving 32,000 respondents, conducted in September this year, had found that after several security features were added to Gojek SHIELD, about 92 percent of Gojek drivers felt safer as their accounts had more protection.

“It becomes really important for digital platforms to be one step ahead of digital criminals, through technology innovations as well as digital literacy for people within the ecosystem," said Charles Lim, an expert on information technology and digital security at Swiss German University, Tangerang.

This has become more significant as the COVID-19 pandemic has led to people intensifying their digital engagement on a daily basis, Lim added.
