The epicenter of the first quake, which struck at 3:43 a.m. local time, was located 34 kilometers southwest of Central Mamuju District, at a depth of 10 kilometers, spokesman for the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Station in Majene District Setiawan SR remarked.
The second quake that hit at 6:50 a.m. local time was centered 48 kilometers northeast of Mamuju City, at a depth of 19 kilometers, he noted.
No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquakes.
No immediate reports were received of injuries and fatalities due to the tremors.
Earthquakes of magnitude 5.4 and 5.0 can cause considerable damage to land.
