The high rainfall affected red chili supplies.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia recorded an inflation of 0.07 percent in October, after three consecutive months of deflation, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The inflation was fueled by a rise in the prices of red chili, onion, and cooking oil, among other commodities, BPS chairman Suhariyanto said at a press conference here on Monday.

The hike in the price of red chili was attributed to high rainfall in several parts of the country.

"The high rainfall affected red chili supplies," Suhariyanto said.

Meanwhile, onion prices rose by an average of 0.02 percent in 72 cities, including Lhokseumawe, where the rate jumped by up to 33 percent, he informed.

The increase in the prices of cooking oil and rice, along with side dishes, coupled with a high demand from the public also contributed to inflationary pressure, he said.

Meanwhile, the prices of other commodities, including pure-bred eggs, pure-bred chicken, tomato, apple, papaya, electricity tariff, air tickets, and gold jewelry fell, thereby contributing to deflationary pressure.

The prices of pure-bred eggs and air tickets dropped 0.02 percent, while the prices of pure-bred chicken, fruit, and electricity tariffs declined 0.01 percent, Suhariyanto said.

He added that 66 out of the 90 cities covered by the consumer price index (IHK) survey recorded an inflation and 24 cities witnessed a deflation in October, 2020.

Sibolga recorded the highest inflation of 1.04 percent, while Jakarta, Cirebon, Bekasi, and Jember registered a low inflation of 0.01 percent each, he informed.

The highest deflation of 1.81 percent was recorded in Manokwari, and the lowest deflation of 0.02 percent was reported in Surabaya, he added.

The October, 2020 inflation brought the calendar inflation to 0.95 percent and the year-on-year inflation to 1.44 percent, he said. (INE)
