Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Democrat Party faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) is considering at length various steps to propose the revision of Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation.

"It is our right, as a member of the Democrat Party faction in the DPR, to ponder over steps to propose the revision of the Job Creation Law," Didik Mukrianto, a faction member of the faction, stated here on Thursday.

As part of the Democrat Party's stance of rejecting the passage of the Job Creation Bill into Law at a plenary meeting of the DPR on October 5, the faction will also prepare steps to file a legislative review in accordance with the procedures and mechanism set forth in the law.

According to Mukrianto, the Democrat Party faction has come to the realization that the legislative review is the existing step to propose a revision of the law.

"We highly respect and morally support all sides that share views with the Democrat to struggle through constitutional and legal channels. After (the law) has been endorsed, an opportunity is open to file a judicial review (of the law) in the Constitutional Court," he stated.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed the Job Creation Bill, officially making it Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation on Monday (Nov 2).

The government completed the draft omnibus bill on February 12, 2020, and the Parliament began discussions on it on April 2, 2020. The DPR endorsed the proposed legislation on October 5, 2020.

The government claimed that all stakeholders in the country were involved in the drafting of the bill, including the Manpower Ministry, experts, businessmen, and labor union representatives.

However, following its Parliamentary approval, the law was rejected by several labor unions, activists, and university lecturers, who opined that it would be detrimental to the interests of workers and endanger the environment.
