Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik revealed that apart from discussing International Human Rights Day, to be commemorated on December 10, 2020, his party had also held a discussion on the trend of intolerance.
"Earlier, we were also discussing the trend of intolerance, for instance, related to the disturbance of a group of people, who perform worship or build houses of worship," Damanik remarked during a press conference after meeting the president here on Monday.
Damanik conveyed that Komnas HAM had put forth a more just arrangement based on the freedom of all citizens to practice their respective religions.
"This is because a revision of the existing ministerial joint regulations is needed," he noted.
Komnas HAM is seeking a higher regulation, for which it had suggested a Perpres, or presidential regulation.
"It will be discussed internally in the government, and the point is that the president welcomes it," he explained.
Taufan is optimistic that Komnas HAM's proposal would aid in addressing the problem of intolerance stifling the people's freedom of worship.
