Investigators will surely summon Rizieq Shihab to seek a clarification so the chronology of the problem is clear.
Bandung (ANTARA) - Police will summon Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq Shihab and question him over alleged violations of health protocols during a mass gathering in Megamendung, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (November 13, 2020).



“Investigators will surely summon Rizieq Shihab to seek a clarification so the chronology of the problem is clear,” chief of the public relations bureau of the West Java provincial police, Senior Commissioner Erdi A Chaniago, said here on Saturday.



Police will ask Shihab to clarify whether he attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Megamendung at his own initiative or at the invitation of the organizing committee, he added.



Chaniago said police will summon Shihab after completing a preliminary investigation.



Bogor district head Ade Yasin, chief of the local community unit, and the event's organizer, Habib Muchsin Alatas, have not appeared before the General Crime Investigation Directorate of the West Java provincial police to give their clarification, he added.



Yasin did not respond to the police's summons on him being exposed to COVID-19, while Muchsin did not furnish a reason for failing to appear before the police, Chaniago said.



Police also plan to summon another member of the event's organizing committee, Ustadz Asep Agus Sofyan, he added.



Four people will be issued summons on Tuesday (November 24, 2020), he said.

Police had earlier questioned the secretary of the Bogor district government, chief of the Bogor Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and the Megamendung sub-district head in relation to the case.



Based on the results of an investigation, officials found the event’s organizers did not secure a police permit, Chaniago said.



Earlier, the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) had summoned West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil over alleged violations of health protocols during Shihab’s gathering in Megamendung.



“As a law-abiding citizen, I must meet the summons. Tomorrow (Friday, November 20), (I) will visit Bareskrim Polri in the company of the chief of legal bureau (of the secretariat of West Java province," Kamil informed the press here on Thursday. (INE)
