This requires a manager or a group of managers, with creative, innovative ideas, and who always think productively but critically on how to optimize these assets
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati emphasized the need for state asset managers to continue to be innovative, creative, and adaptive to changes to optimize the value and function of assets to benefit the state.

"This requires a manager or a group of managers, with creative, innovative ideas, and who always think productively but critically on how to optimize these assets," Indrawati noted at the Grand Final of The Asset Manager 2020 in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Indrawati stated that the government had channeled capital expenditures to build various facilities, including roads, dams, railways, buildings, and terminals.

The minister called on state asset managers to be innovative, creative, and adaptive to ensure that the various values and functions of government assets built so far do not stop.

Indrawati cited an example of the government having built and repaired the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) to be replete with all facilities for holding the Asian Games several years ago.

The minister highlighted the importance of critical thinking among state asset managers to find breakthroughs, so that the facilities and splendor of the GBK Stadium are not solely confined to the Asian Games.

Indrawati noted that the added value of state assets was not always in the form of money since the location can serve as a public space and places can be sold to facilitate economic movement and be socially beneficial.

"Sometimes after we have finished constructing a building, we forget that we can still optimize the asset," the minister stated.

Indrawati explained that the adaptive outlook of a state asset manager is apparent from the manner in which he or she views and responds to a disruption, such as a shift in the system of working, from an office to a Work From Home (WFH) setup.

"I am optimistic that asset managers would be able to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of what we can change in managing assets, including the office space," the minister stated.

Indrawati believes that efforts to optimize the added value and function of state assets would facilitate state budget utilization to address the impact of the pandemic on society and the business world.

"From the aspect of asset productivity, non-tax state revenue can be obtained, and this will provide tremendous assistance for state finances," the minister noted.
