Following the vaccine’s arrival in the country, the government should then intensify edification and raise awareness regarding the safety and benefits of the vaccine to convince people to obtain vaccine shots to prevent the further spread of COVID-19
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani sought the government's action to strengthen measures to edify the public and disseminate information on COVID-19 vaccines, deemed important to convince people for inoculation as a preventive step.

However, Maharani also underscored the significance of vaccine distribution to be conducted in accordance with the procedure, scientific considerations, and positive results of clinical trials.

"Following the vaccine’s arrival in the country, the government should then intensify edification and raise awareness regarding the safety and benefits of the vaccine to convince people to obtain vaccine shots to prevent the further spread of COVID-19," she noted in Jakarta, Monday.

The speaker's statement came following the arrival of 1.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from China-based company Sinovac on Sunday (December 6).

Maharani further expounded that disseminating information and raising awareness can be conducted by involving public and religious figures, academics, the private sector, as well as civil members of the public.

The minister noted that information disseminated to the people should include the time of distribution and reception, as well as the independent and subsidized vaccine mechanisms. The distribution should also be conducted based on an accurate result of data analysis.

"Those unable to afford the vaccine or individuals exposed to high risks should be offered the facilities. Ensure that the price of independent vaccination is affordable, as pricing should not get in the way of people obtaining the shots," she emphasized.

Furthermore, Maharani encouraged people to stay disciplined in abiding by the mandated health protocols of wearing masks, avoiding crowds, and washing hands under running water.

Despite the arrival of vaccines, the minister expressed belief that the public should continue to abide by health protocols to protect themselves and those around.
