Binjai, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - A total of 413 inmates cast their votes at two polling stations for electing the mayor of Binjai in North Sumatra Province by adhering to health protocols to safeguard against COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Chief of the Binjai city correctional facility Maju Siburian confirmed on Wednesday that 413 of the 900 inmates of the correctional facility were registered as eligible voters in the mayoral election.

"As per the list of voters, 413 inmates have the right to vote. They are registered on the fixed list of voters for the Binjai mayoral election," he remarked.

Akin to other polling stations, the special polling stations at the correctional facility also applied health protocols for protection against COVID-19, he pointed out.

Election officers checked the body temperature of the inmates, who were to cast their votes. The inmates had to also wash hands and wear masks and special gloves provided by election officers.

If the body temperature of inmates was recorded at above 37 degree Celsius, they would cast their votes in a special polling booth.
