We must be self-reliant economically under whatever circumstances.  We must reduce our dependence on other countries.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia should be able to lower and also end dependence on other countries, acting Social Affairs Minister Muhadjir Effendy emphasized while drawing reference to the message of the country's founding father, Soekarno.

"We must be self-reliant economically under whatever circumstances. We must reduce our dependence on other countries," he stated during a webinar themed "Exploring Social Solidarity during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Millennials' Perspective" here on Thursday.

In general, Indonesia has ideals and goals of a sovereign nation, which means it must be strong, independent, and confident and not being easily dictated by other countries, he emphasized.

In addition, Indonesia must revert to its cultural personality as mandated by the proclaimers of the country's independence. "I think that is what Bung Karno's message is and has a fundamental spirit that must be understood and comprehended by the millennial generation," he affirmed.

Without political sovereignty, economic self-reliance, and strong culture, Indonesia will miss out on the opportunity to become an advanced state and to stand at par with other nations, he stated.

Indonesians should practice the messages conveyed by the country's founding fathers in their day-to-day lives, he remarked.

The younger or millennial generation must prepare itself better than what its predecessors did. On the other hand, the older generation should also inherit sound values, he pointed out.

"Inherit good values for the sake of continuation of the Indonesian nation," he affirmed. (INE)
