Global warming has pushed us to collaborate with society to face and formulate solutions to that matter
Madiun (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy and National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo initiated the planting of 10 million tree seedlings in Madiun District, East Java, on Wednesday.

Minister Effendy stated that President Joko Widodo had instructed the police chief to participate in promoting and encouraging tree-planting activities, with the objective of handling the effects of global warming and climate change.

"Hence, I would like to thank Polri chief for his willingness to pioneer the planting of 10 million tree seeds as a follow-up to Mr. President's directive. Since May this year, the ministry has also been implementing a similar program, with five million tree seeds having been planted," he remarked.

The minister invited all parties to partake in similar initiatives in the hopes of planting as many as 100 million tree seedlings for Indonesia.

General Prabowo, on his part, noted that the newly launched activity for planting tree seedlings had become a necessity.

"Global warming has pushed us to collaborate with society to face and formulate solutions to that matter. This activity is aimed at protecting the future generations from the risks triggered by climate change and extreme weather conditions," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of Madiun District Tontro Pahlawanto extended his gratitude to the Polri and PMK Coordinating Ministry for choosing Madiun as the location for launching the tree seedling planting activity.

"I and the people of Madiun District would like to express our gratitude for this beneficial activity. This action is a joint movement that requires collaboration and participation toward the realization of a united Indonesia," Pahlawanto remarked.

He said that it is vital for relevant parties to encourage the people to cooperate in preserving the environment, including by planting trees, to mitigate the high frequency of natural disasters in Indonesia.

The planting of 10 million tree seedlings is being carried out by all regional police in Indonesia, with the support of the PMK Coordinating Ministry, Environment and Forestry Ministry, and Agriculture Ministry.

The activity constitutes Polri's commitment to collaborating with the government, Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), and other stakeholders to preserve and protect the Indonesian environment from the threats posed by climate change.
