"The role of digitalization is increasingly felt in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, where people are required to be able to (not) move from home," Ari Kuncoro said at an online seminar themed ‘Accelerating Indonesia's Digitalization with Cheap and Reliable Connectivity-Based Smart Utilities’, held by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) in Jakarta on Thursday.
Digitalization, he continued, will continue to develop and be needed by society.
One form of digitalization is a smart utility that can provide experience and quality at different levels, he said.
In order for smart utilities to benefit the community, he said, all parties need link and match cooperation.
"Talking about smart utilities, we will talk about the application of the internet of things (IoT)," he said.
According to him, IoT can open many opportunities for users and the industry, and have a big impact on economic movement.
Speaking at the seminar, director of infrastructure and technology at PT PGN Tbk, Redy Ferryanto, said PGN has increased the operational efficiency of natural gas use by utilizing smart utilities.
He said PGN will optimize and accelerate the growth of the natural gas business, industry, power plant manufacturing, city gas network for Indonesia with various natural gas sources, both at home and abroad.
"With the complexity of the infrastructure that we handle, it is clear that we cannot serve customers simply, we manage with smart digital (technology), which is a must, with efficiency and (in) real-time,” he said.
Redy said PGN’s digital transformation targets two aspects — operating technology and information technology, which use smart systems.
"PGN's operations are supported by various information technologies that are considered sophisticated and reliable to ensure the continuity of the quantity and quality of gas," he added. (INE)
