Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Task Force for COVID-19 Handling on Monday reported that Indonesia added 5,854 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 6,302 recoveries in a span of 24 hours.

As of December 28, 2020, the total number of recoveries were pegged at 589,978, while the number of confirmed cases stood at 719,219. With 215 more people succumbing to the virus in a single day, the death toll reached 21,452.

Jakarta contributed the highest number of recoveries at 1,700. It recorded 1,678 fresh cases and 21 deaths within one day.

Meanwhile, West Java reported 832 recoveries, 403 fresh cases, and no fatalities; followed by South Sulawesi with 695 recoveries, 337 confirmed cases, and four deaths; East Java with 693 recoveries, 784 new cases, and 54 deaths; Central Java with 668 recoveries, 977 confirmed cases, and 84 deaths; Central Kalimantan with 181 recoveries, 43 new cases, and one fatality; and, Riau with 171 recoveries, 81 fresh cases, and four deaths.

According to the task force, four provinces reported less than 10 new cases. Meanwhile, West Kalimantan province was the only province to report no additional cases.

Indonesia also recorded 69,156 suspected cases in 510 districts and cities in 34 provinces.

As many as 34,796 specimens were examined on Monday, using both real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and molecular rapid tests (TCM), bringing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 7,159,309.
