The number of victims has increased to 13Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The joint search and rescue team has found two more victims of landslide in Cihanjuang Village of Sumedang District, West Java, bringing the death toll to 13 as of Sunday.
"Two more victims were found dead. The number of victims has increased to 13," head of the Bandung Search and Rescue Office (SAR) Deden Ridwansyah said.
The two victims, found at 09.30 a.m local time and 12.55 p.m local time, are both male, he said.
Earlier in the day, the joint SAR team and Sumedang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded 11 victims buried in the landslide.
Among the victims were Commander of Cimanggung Subdistrict Military and head of the Emergency and Logistical Unit of BPBD Sumedang, who were buried by the second landslide that hit the area at 07.30 p.m on Saturday (Jan 9).
The SAR team has continued to find more victims of the disaster.
So far, the landslides triggered by torrential rains have claimed 13 lives, and rendered six others missing in Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung Sub-district, Sumedang District, West Java Province, on late Saturday.
In total, 22 victims were buried by landslide materials in Cihanjuang Village, with three people surviving the disaster
The first landslide triggered by downpour, occurred on Saturday at around 3:30 p.m. and it was followed by another landslide at around 7 p.m. local time.
Apart from local residents, the victims of the second landslide included members of the search team comprising military officers and Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) personnel.
The number of fatalities might increase as the search team continued to look for more bodies under the landslide mud.
