Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Bank Indonesia (BI) Consumer Survey in December, 2020 has indicated that consumer confidence in economic conditions is strengthening, and approaching the optimistic zone.

This is reflected in the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK), which stood at 96.5, up from 92.0 in November, 2020.

“Consumer confidence is observed to strengthen across all categories of expenditure levels and education levels,” executive director of the BI communication department, Erwin Haryono, said in Jakarta on Monday.

Spatially, he said, consumer confidence improved in the 14 cities surveyed, with the highest increase recorded in Bandar Lampung, followed by DKI Jakarta and Denpasar.

The improving consumer confidence in December, 2020 was driven by a stronger perception of current economic conditions and future expectations, Erwin explained.

The perception of current economic conditions is improving, supported by aspects of job availability, income, and timeliness of purchasing durable goods, he added.

Meanwhile, Erwin said, consumer expectations of future economic conditions have increased, particularly in terms of job availability. (INE)
