Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - Five people died, while two others sustained injuries after a minibus slammed into a truck on the Pekanbaru-Dumai Toll Road in Riau Province on Wednesday morning.

On the basis of preliminary investigation, the driver of the Pekanbaru-bound minibus dozed off during which time, the speeding vehicle rammed into the right rear side of the truck plying on the slow lane, Manager of the Pekanbaru-Dumai Toll Road A. A. G. Indrajana stated here on Wednesday.

"The injured have been rushed to the Awal Bros Hospital on A. Yani Street in Pekanbaru," he remarked.

Indrajana noted that the toll road operation and maintenance division of state-owned construction firm PT Hutama Karya, as operator of the total road section, had handled the accident in cooperation with the police.

Those killed in the accident were identified as H. Napitupulu, Jerri Jonggok, Linda Tambunan, Dua Simangunsong, and Jhon Efraim Butar-butar.

"PT Hutama Karya offers condolences over the accidents that claimed lives," he stated.
