Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Police Hospital, as of Tuesday, received 310 bags of human remains of the victims of the crashed Sriwijaya Air plane.

"We received 310 bags in phase 1 in Tanjung Priok," Commander of the police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team Senior Commissioner Hery Wijatmoko notified the press here on Tuesday.

Wijatmoko remarked that the police had identified 34 victims, of which the bodies of 23 were handed over to the families.

The team had received 438 DNA samples from families of the victims, comprising 293 post-mortem samples and 145 samples of families, he noted.

Furthermore, the police received 250 bags containing the passengers' possessions.

"The items we have received were collected in 250 bags. These items did not attach with the body parts. Hence, we need supporting data to conduct analysis," Wijatmoko stated.

Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182, serving the Jakarta-Pontianak route, crashed in the waters off Seribu Islands, Jakarta, at around 2:40 p.m. local time on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

According to the Transportation Ministry, last contact was established with the Boeing 737-500 jet, bearing registration number PK-CLC, at 11 nautical miles, north of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after the aircraft crossed an altitude of 11 thousand feet and was ascending to 13 thousand feet.

The plane took off from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 2:40 p.m. local time on Saturday and was scheduled to land at Supadio Airport in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, at 3:50 p.m. local time.
