The five suspected terrorists are believed to have been involved in a bomb attack on the Medan City Police Station, a bomb blast in Riau, and perpetrated a bombing in AcehBanda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - The National Police’s Counterterrorism Squad, Densus 88, arrested three suspected terrorists from two different places in Banda Aceh City and Aceh Besar district, and two others from Langsa City in Aceh this week.
“Three suspected terrorists were caught on Blangbintang-Krueng Raya Highway, Aceh Besar district, and Simpang Tujuh market in Ulee Kareng, Banda Aceh City,” chief of the public relations service of the Aceh Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Winardy, said here on Saturday.
The three suspected terrorists were identified by their initials as SA (alias S) and RA, who were arrested on the Blangbintang-Krueng Raya Highway in Aceh Besar at 7.45 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Wednesday (January 20, 2021), and UMM alias AA alias TA, who was arrested at the Simpang Tujuh market in Ulee Kareng, Banda Aceh, at 10 a.m. WIB on Thursday (January 21, 2021).
The Densus 88 also arrested two more suspected terrorists, identified by their initials as SB alias AF, a civil servant, and MY, a fisherman, in Langsa City at 8 p.m. WIB on Thursday (January 21, 2021).
During the raid on the suspected terrorists' homes, the Densus 88 seized notes, messages containing threats to the government, the military and police, five passport books, and bomb-making materials, Winardy informed.
The materials included one kilogram of potassium powder, charcoal, two thousand iron bullets, and iron pipes, he said.
"The five suspected terrorists are believed to have been involved in a bomb attack on the Medan City Police Station, a bomb blast in Riau, and perpetrated a bombing in Aceh. They are also believed to have visited Afghanistan to join the ISIS group," he said.
