"We are optimistic that the Belitung Geopark would soon receive UNESCO’s recognition, as it has achieved the highest value in Indonesia," Djohan noted here on Monday.
The governor was optimistic that the Belitung Geopark would garner UNESCO's recognition, as it had obtained a score of 850, the highest that Indonesia ever secured in the final examination of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council conducted on December 8, 2020.
"I am proud of the Belitong Geopark preparation team. This is final, and we just need to clear it until we can receive the certificate in April this year," he noted.
Of Indonesia's 15 national geoparks, Batur in Bali, Ciletuh-Pelabuhanratu in West Java, Gunung Sewu in Yogyakarta, and Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have been included on the List of UGGp.

No less than 110 Indonesian regions can potentially be developed into geoparks.

Indonesia sees huge potential in developing cooperation among geoparks in the South China Sea Rim in a bid to support nature and cultural conservation, develop the creative economy, and promote the tourism sector.
