The target is that 30,000 will be vaccinated before April (2021).
Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is aiming to inoculate 30 thousand tourism workers against COVID-19 in Nongsa tourist resort, Batam City and Lago tourist resort in Bintan district, Riau Islands province.

"The target is that 30,000 will be vaccinated before April (2021)," Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, informed on Saturday.

The vaccination of tourism workers is aimed at ensuring the success of the government's plan to implement a safe travel corridor policy, he explained.

With the safe travel corridor policy in place, the government plans to open its borders with Singapore, particularly in Lago and Nongsa, he said.

"We hope the sub-districts of Nongsa and Bintan (Lago) will get priority so tourism and creative economy agents there could be vaccinated (first)," he added.

The vaccination of tourism operators will be conducted in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Law and Human Rights Ministry, the Riau Islands provincial government, the Batam City administration, and the Bintan district administration, Uno informed.

He said the vaccination is among the efforts being made by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

However, even after receiving the vaccination, the public must stay disciplined in following the health protocols, which include wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands with soap, he stressed.

"Mr. Mayor has told us that both Bintan and Nongsa (Batam) reported zero COVID-19 cases, but we must not be proud of it. We must monitor it strictly," he said. (INE)
