Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The National Police's Counterterrorism Squad Densus 88 has arrested 18 suspected terrorists from several places in North Sumatra province.

"The arrest of the 18 suspected terrorists is the result of investigations conducted by Densus 88 in several parts of North Sumatra," chief of the public relations section of the North Sumatra Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Hadi Wahyudi, said on Tuesday.

Densus 88 apprehended the first two suspects in Tanjung Balai City and six in Medan City last Friday (March 19, 2021), he said.

Three more suspected terrorists were nabbed on Sunday (March 21, 2021) and seven more on Monday (March 22, 2021).

"They were arrested in different places, including Medan, Binjai, Tanjung Balai, Labuan Batu, and Langkat,” Wahyudi said.

He, however, refused to divulge more details on the suspected terrorist network in North Sumatra, arguing that it is the Densus 88 that has the authority to do so.

“It is Densus that will provide complete information,” he said. (INE)
