If this is not overcome together, we believe, the younger generations, particularly our residents in North Sumatra, will fall victims in future.
Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - North Sumatra is ranked first among Indonesia's 34 provinces in terms of narcotic abuse, according to Provincial Police Chief Inspector General Panca Putra.

"Among all provinces in Indonesia, North Sumatra is ranked first, especially in terms of the number of (drug) users," Putra remarked while observing the process of drugs being destroyed in the vicinity of the North Sumatra Provincial Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

According to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) data, North Sumatra was also ranked first in terms of the number of drug addicts last year, he pointed out.

The condition has become a cause for grave concern, Putra remarked, adding that the provincial police will intensify cooperation with several elements, including the Communication Forum of Regional Leaders (Forkopimda) as well as religious and social figures to reduce the province's drug abuse rate.

Putra noted that Forkopimda of North Sumatra had also declared a war against drugs.

"If this is not overcome together, we believe, the younger generations, particularly our residents in North Sumatra, will fall victims in future," he remarked.

The North Sumatra Provincial Police destroyed drugs, including 205 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, five kilograms of cannabis, and 23 ecstasy pills, seized during raids conducted from December 2020 to February 2021.

Commander of the Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command Major General Hasanuddin, North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi, and several other officials of Forkopimda were also present while the drugs were being destroyed.
