Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s single-day COVID-19 recoveries reached 5,993 on Thursday, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the infection so far to 1,481,449, the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling reported.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 increased by 6,243, bringing the total to 1,626,812 so far, as per the latest task force data received by ANTARA here on Thursday.

With 165 people succumbing to COVID-19, the death toll reached 44,172, the task force reported.

The number of active cases in the country increased by 85 to reach 101,191, while the number of suspected cases stood at 63,422.

West Java province recorded the highest number of daily cases at 1,358, followed by Jakarta (1,266), Central Java (600), Riau (419), East Java (291), and West Sumatra (286).

The highest number of daily recoveries were reported by Central Java (1,633), followed by West Java (1,338), Jakarta (651), Yogyakarta (274), and East Java (234).

Cumulatively, Jakarta has reported the highest tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases at 402,376, followed by West Java (272,069), Central Java (181,089), East Java (145,531), East Kalimantan (67,394), and South Sulawesi (61,300).

Jakarta has also recorded the highest tally of recoveries at 388,659, followed by West Java (239,551), Central Java (159,190), East Java (132,908), East Kalimantan (63,773), and South Sulawesi (59,892).

Meanwhile, Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto has claimed that 17 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Indonesians, including to 3.2 million senior citizens.

The government has continued to expedite the implementation of the national vaccination program to achieve the target of administering 500 thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to people on a daily basis, the minister noted here on Wednesday.

"Handling of the COVID-19 pandemic should involve not only the government, but also all elements of the community," he remarked during the launch of "Program Home Care & Home Delivery for Vaccination of 10,000 Senior Citizens for the State" in Jakarta.

Of the 3.2 million senior citizens who have received the vaccine so far, 2.2 million, or 10.54 percent, have received their first dose, while one million, or 4.86 percent, have received their second dose of the vaccine.
