The arrest of Munarman, who is also a member of FPI leader Habib Rizieq Shihab's team of defense lawyers, was confirmed by National Police spokesperson Ins.Gen. Argo Yuwono.
He was arrested over his alleged involvement in the "activities of 'baiat' (pledges of allegiance)” at the FPI office in Makassar, South Sulawesi in 2015, Yuwono told local journalists.
Munarman's arrest was made at a home in the Modern Hills residence of Cinangka neighborhood in Pamulang sub-district, Tangerang Selatan city, Banten province, he informed.
ANTARA has earlier reported that Habib Rizieq Shihab is currently facing trial in several cases at the East Jakarta District Court.
The cases include police charges that Shihab breached COVID-19 restrictions by hosting large gatherings in Petamburan, Jakarta, and Megamendung, Bogor district, West Java in November last year.
Munarman is also a member of an advocacy team set up for handling the alleged killing of six FPI members, who were reportedly shot dead early on the morning of December 7, 2020 while they were guarding the FPI leader's motorcade.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, has said that on-duty police investigation officers shot the six guards for attacking them.
The incident took place at 00:30 a.m. local time on December 7, 2020 on KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, he informed.
The National Commission on Human Rights reported that 18 gunshot wounds were found on the bodies of the FPI members -- Muhammad Reza (20), Muhammad Suci Khadavi (21), Faiz Ahmad Syukur (22), Lutfi Hakim (25), Ahmad Sofiyan (26), and Andi Oktiawan (33).
The families of the six slain FPI members have demanded justice and a transparent and fair trial to bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
It is worth noting that the fatal shooting drew public and media attention in Indonesia and abroad. The victims' advocacy team even filed a report with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands.
The report on the six slain FPI members was filed at the Hague-based ICC on January 16, 2021, said Munarman, quoted by Republika. (INE)
