However, five occupants of the houses have been evacuatedSukabumi, W Java (ANTARA) - Two houses caved in after a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Sukabumi District, West Java, on Tuesday evening, according to the Sukabumi District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
"No casualties were reported following the collapse of the two houses located at RT 005/004 in Bantargadung Village/Sub-district. However, five occupants of the houses have been evacuated," spokesman for the Bantargadung Sub-district Disaster Mitigation Office Sihabudin stated on Tuesday.
Moreover, five houses in the village are on the brink of collapsing. To avoid any untoward incidents, the BNPB has evacuated their occupants to a safer area.
By Tuesday evening, a joint team of personnel from the Indonesian military, police, and Search and Rescue team were still at the scene to help remove debris from the collapsed houses.
The quake inflicted material losses to the tune of Rp300 million.
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded southeast of Sukabumi District, West Java, on Tuesday, though no tsunami warning was issued, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated.
Epicenter of the quake, which struck at 4:23 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), was located approximately 103 km southeast of Sukabumi at 7.86 degrees south latitude and 106.87 degrees east longitude and at a depth of 14 km.
The earthquake, which triggered panic among local residents, did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, according to the BMKG.
The earthquake at Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) III was felt by the residents of Rangkasbitung and Bandung and at MMI II in Bogor, South Tangerang, and Jakarta.
