The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 4:23 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), was located approximately 103 km southeast of Sukabumi (7.86 degrees south latitude and 106.87 degrees east longitude), at a depth of 14 km.
The earthquake, which created panic among local residents, did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, the BMKG said.
The earthquake was felt by inhabitants of Rangkasbitung and Bandung at III MMI (modified mercalli intensity), and Bogor, South Tangerang, and Jakarta at II MMI.
