"We escorted and picked up 43 people with mental disabilities, accompanied by 19 assistants from Harapan Jaya Bina Karya Social Housing to participate in the vaccination using five bus units," the Coordinator of the Activities of the ministry's Directorate of Persons with Disabilities Imam, said in a statement here on Sunday.
The ministry deployed ten assistants to facilitate the activity. They consist of nurses and social workers from the Social Rehabilitation Center.
Reni, one of the assistants, admitted that she was grateful for the service, so that the provision of COVID-19 vaccination for vulnerable people could be carried out optimally.
"Thank you to the Social Affairs Ministry for facilitating the access for the beneficiaries to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination, and this is the second time already," she said.
The provision of the COVID-19 vaccine for persons disabilities is in accordance with President Joko Widodo's direction to provide services for all levels of society, including people with mental disabilities.
Those with disabilities have the same rights as other citizens of the country, including the right to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The service for escorting and picking up people with disabilities is part of the ministry's efforts to facilitate access for people with disabilities who will take part in the COVID-19 vaccination, which is being carried out by the government to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
