Jakarta (ANTARA) - Graft watchdog Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) has filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) of the National Police against Firli Bahuri, chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), for allegedly receiving gratuities.

Three ICW representatives arrived at the Bareskrim building here on Thursday, carrying a bundle of blue files with the words ‘Alleged Acceptance of Gratification by Firli Bahuri as Chair of the Indonesian KPK’ written across them.

The ICW representatives included Kurnia Ramadhana and researcher Wana Alamsyah.

On May 25, 2021, the ICW, representing the Anti-Corruption Civil Society Coalition, sent a letter of request to the National Police chief, Gen. Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to dismiss Commissioner General Firli Bahuri, KPK chairman and an active member of the National Police.

They also reported several cases involving Bahuri, who was installed as the KPK chairman in December, 2019.

The cases included an alleged ethical violation pertaining to a personal trip Bahuri took from Palembang to Baturaja in June, 2020 on a luxury helicopter owned by a private company.

They also included a recent civic test mandated for KPK employees seeking to become civil servants.

The assessment has invited much controversy over its questions and for it leading to the KPK moving to dismiss 75 KPK employees, including senior investigators, who flunked it.

The senior investigators include those currently handling mega corruption cases in Indonesia, including the bribery case allegedly involving Harun Masiku, a member of the ruling political party, PDIP.

Masiku has been missing ever since the bribery case surfaced in early 2020.

Another major corruption case being handled by KPK senior investigators is the COVID-19 social aid corruption involving former social affairs minister Juliari Batubara, also a PDIP cadre. (INE)
