"Stop deliberating the revision of the corruption law which contains clauses on the role and authority of KPK from now on," ICW coordinator for law and court monitoring division Febri Diansyah said in a press statement on Sunday night.
According to ICW, the law had 13 times undergone judicial reviews and 11 of them concerned threat to the presence of the anti-graft body.
"Most of the judicial reviews are aimed at nullifying the KPK`s strategic authority," he said.
He alleged that the Constitutional Court (MK) had played a role as a negative legislative body to eliminate KPK as the authority to enact the law was in the hands of the House and the government.
He said he had many times found attempts of amputating the KPK`s main authority, such as indictment and bugging both on the executive and legislative sides.
To anticipate revision of the corruption law, ICW called on political figures and lawmakers who had committed themselves to combat corruption to reject the revision.
"We call on the Indonesian people to monitor, record and fight any attempt made by politicians and DPR members who wish to weaken KPK," he said. (*)
