I call for the BPJPH and the LPPOM MUI to soon establish coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to reach an agreement on a halal certification for IndonesiaJakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is keen that internationally standardized halal certification be agreed on soon in order to ensure acceptance of Indonesian halal products in the global market.
To this end, VP Amin has urged the Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH) and the Indonesian Ulema Council Food and Drug Analysis Agency (LPPOM MUI) to soon work along with the government to acquire the certification.
"I call for the BPJPH and the LPPOM MUI to soon establish coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to reach an agreement on a halal certification for Indonesia that can be accepted internationally," the VP noted in his speech at the LPPOM MUI Syawal Festival, conveyed virtually from Jakarta, Tuesday.
A halal certification that complies with international standards will allow export destination countries to bring in Indonesian products, according to Amin.
"It is undeniable that halal certification has become one of the requirements for products to be received by export destination countries," he affirmed.

Halal products from Indonesia are exported to Muslim-majority nations, including members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Amin pointed out.
"The government is striving to open the export market in OIC countries by removing trade barriers, both tariff and non-tariff," he stated.
The VP further highlighted that the halal industry had potential not only in the domestic market but also on the global scale that serves as a substantial potential for Indonesia to boost halal products.
Other measures undertaken by the government to develop the halal industry ecosystem include by establishing a Halal Industry Zone in several regions.
"This aims to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian halal products through the integration of the production process, logistics support and certification, all-in-one integrated service," he stated.
