Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 64 percent of almost 50 million residents in West Java Province receive social assistance from the government amid the enforcement of emergency public activity restrictions (PPKM), West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has said.

“The people covered by formal social aids was only 40 percent, however, currently, the number has increased to 60 percent,” he disclosed at an online press conference originating from Pakuan office, Bandung City on Thursday.

The provincial government will hand out relief to people who have not been registered in the central government’s Social Welfare Integrated Data (DTKS), he said.

The governor participated in distributing funds and essential commodities to residents on July 20-21, 2021. He also urged local communities to help the government in delivering the relief packages to people affected by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, West Java Provincial Social Office chief Dodo Suhendar said the central and provincial governments have distributed social aid packages through 13 programs to West Java residents amid the enforcement of the PPKM to curb COVID-19 transmission.

The main programs comprise the regular Family Hope Program (PKH), the non-cash food assistance program (BPNT) , as well as the social cash transfer program (BST), he added.

The central government is also providing additional rice grants to PKH and BST recipients, he said.

Furthermore, supplementary rice aid is being disbursed by the city/district governments besides extra relief from the governments of Bandung city, Ciamis district, and Bogor district, he added.

The National Police (Polri) and Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) have also distributed five kg of rice to households, using the non-budgeted fund (non-APBN) of the President Secretariat Office, he said.

Meanwhile, various other grants have been provided through the Village Fund, relief for micro enterprises, electricity fee discounts, pre-employment cards (Kartu Prakerja), as well as free internet quotas, he added.

"The recipients of the relief programs comprise 10,129,949 households as well as 4,362,641 individuals," Suhendar said.

The recipients of PKH and BST have increased to 1,813,956 households and 2,060,882 households, respectively, he added.
