Jakarta (ANTARA) - With Tanah Abang, one of the largest shopping centers in Jakarta, reopening on July 26, 2021 amid public activity restrictions, visitors to the market are being asked to present COVID-19 vaccine cards.

"It is mandatory in all markets to show a COVID-19 vaccine card, with at least the first jab (administered)," Tanah Abang market's manager, Heri Supriyatna, told ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.

All traders and visitors to A, B, F and G blocks of Tanah Abang market will have to carry vaccine cards, he informed.

The rule has been formulated to prevent an increase in severe COVID-19 cases, he said.

The rule is also expected to mobilize the community to take part in and help accelerate the national vaccination program, he added.

As per Supriyatna's records, currently, more than 21 thousand store employees from Block A, B, F, and G of Tanah Abang market have been vaccinated.

In keeping with level 4 public activity restrictions, the Tanah Abang market will operate from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, Supriyatna said.

"In accordance with government regulations, visitor capacity has also been limited to a maximum of 50 percent," he added.

The operation of markets, including Tanah Abang, has been stipulated in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 24/2021 on level 3 and level 4 public activity restrictions in Java and Bali.

According to the instruction, markets selling non-daily necessities can operate with a maximum capacity of 50 percent until 3 p.m. local time.

President Joko Widodo on Sunday announced that level 4 public activity restrictions, which will also affect market operations, will be extended from July 26 to August 2, 2021, as Indonesia continues to cope with a COVID-19 surge.

The extension of the level 4 restrictions on the islands of Java and Bali has been decided with due consideration to the aspects of health, economy, and social dynamics of communities, the President said.

The government has made some adjustments to the rules related to the operations of people-based business activities under the strict implementation of health protocols, he added.
